KESTRELS GAIN ADVANTAGE IN CUP TIE WITH 2-1 AWAY WIN

ROSENALIS vs MULLINGAR ATHLETIC KESTRELS U11  15.04.2017

The Kestrels traveled to Rosenallis on Saturday morning for away leg of cup tie .

The away team started with more energy and a couple of early chances fell to Eoin Carey and Noah Clarke.With Donnacha Maguire ,Daire McDonald and Cathal Nevin driving from midfield the breakthrough came after just 10 mins when Eoin Carey turned in a cross from close range . A vital away goal .

The home team responded and when they won a free kick 20 yards out there still seemed little danger. However, the strike was down wind and managed to fly into the top corner to make it 1-1. It remained this way until half time.

The 2nd half started with more chances falling to the Kestrels with several goalmouth scrambles but no luck. A succession of corners eventually brought reward. Fionn Maguire swung in perfectly flighted cross from one such corner and Ryan Kenny rose to head it into the back of the Rosenalis net. 2-1 to the Kestrels.

Ryan Kelly, Shane Hopkins and Alan Turzak had to keep their concentration for the remaining minutes as the home team tried to find an equaliser and with Alex Sheerin fighting ferociously for possesion the Kestrels managed to see the game out.

Result FT; Kestrels 2 – Rosenalis 1.
